Software

“It’s the software that makes the machine”, a wise man once said. The Amiga has certainly been well endowed in that respect as it has a very rich heritage of games, applications and public domain software that would probably take more than one life time to experience it all. Whether you wanted to play some games, create music, create digital artwork, do word processing, spruce up your holiday videos with titling and effects or even do a little programming yourself, the Amiga offered those possibilities in spades. Sure, that might not sound so special today, but don’t forget that this computer was available since 1985! It was a big deal back then!

Besides the commercial offerings the Amiga all but pioneered the concept of public domain software, which offered a great opportunity to own great software for merely the price of a disk or a small fee. In some fields the PD counterparts even outperformed their commercial brethren! Countless of PD libraries sprung up in the late 80s and early 90s and a legendary series called the Fred Fish disks was born.

Although I have tons of Amiga software in ADF format I do try and track down any software that I like and buy it off eBay. That would be the odd utility, but primarily games! A special mention should go out for coverdisks. I love them! Back in the early 90's the CU Amiga and Amiga Format coverdisks really were my only source of new software and were usually filled to the brim with full price applications, audio samples for use with Protracker, playable demos of the latest games and much, much more. I have most of the original CU Amiga cover disks in my posession and I'm always on the lookout to fill any holes in my collection. I also have lots of Amiga Format coverdisks and disks belonging to various other publications.

I've arranged my Amiga software collection in the following sections for you to check out:
